You, as an Occasional Teacher with Peel, should contact the school to apply and be prepared to submit a résumé upon request. Does the Board pay for my Dental and Health Benefits? If the LTO is for at least three months, the Board will pay 100% of your premiums if you choose to enroll. What about grid pay for my LTO? You will be paid according to your place on the grid once the paperwork has been processed (usually ~6 weeks from the start date), and assuming the Board has your OSSTF Rating Statement and proof of your teaching experience. Prior to the 10 day mark, you will be paid at the STO rate and after that until the paperwork is sorted, you will be paid at the Cat 1, 0 years experience rate. Retroactive pay to the first day of the LTO will be paid in a lump sum once your place on the grid is determined. In addition, your STO experience from September 2006 onward will count as experience toward your rating on the salary grid for your LTO. How many “on-calls” am I required to do? As an LTO, you are required to do the same number as a regular full-time teacher, pro-rated to the number of days of your LTO relative to 194 teaching days. Are LTOs eligible for Employment Insurance? Under certain conditions, yes. The teacher must have accumulated sufficient insured hours (approximately 83 days) within the Qualifying Period. Insured hours from occupations other than teaching may be included in the total. EI distinguishes between "non-teaching periods" and actual unemployment, but offers exceptions for occasionals. It's complicated, but if you think you have enough hours, start checking at the EI website or at your local EI office. |
